COMMENTARY AND NEWS
Look who is running here

WASHINGTON

This is from Bret Henderson for City council in Washington county.

1.  I am not in favor of ranked choice voting.

2.  We need good representatives on a local level that have solid conservative values and will stand strong in the face of the assault on our liberties.  Our city will also be seeing much growth in both the residential and commercial sectors and we need people with knowledge in those areas that can help guide the growth and preserve our small town feel and our quality of life.

3.  I believe in keeping the government small and keeping taxes low.

4.  I believe that people should make their own choices in regards to the vaccine.

5.  I am not in favor of vaccine passports or segregation of any kind in regards to vaccine status.

6.  I am in full support of our Washington City police force and providing the funding that they need to do a first class job.

7.  It is not the city's role to fund ERG for a business.

8.  I think it is very important for the city council to listen to the ideas and wishes of the citizens as they make decisions.

9.  I do not believe that the election in 2020 was on the up and up on many levels.

Megan, I hope this helps and again,  thank you for your questions.  I am always available for a phone conversation to discuss your ideas or to clarify any of my answers or if you have additional questions.

Thanks

Bret

I wanted to ask you some questions before I make my vote, I would appreciate any answers you are willing to give. Thanks

1. Are you in favor of Ranked Choice Voting in Utah?

 No

2. What attracts you to this role? What makes you different?

A few months ago I uncovered that some of our elected officials are being awarded city contracts for their private business and that bothers me. I want to pass a city ordinance to eliminate this practice. And I believe we need a female voice.

3. Do you feel that government needs more power/control or less power/control?

I believe in limited government and being fiscal conservative.

4. Are you for or against forcing the Covid-19 vaccine on all eligible citizens?

I believe that should be a choice of the individual.

5. Are you for or against segregation based off of vaccination status?

 I am against segregation.

6. Would you work to fund or defend our law enforcement if given the option?

I fully support our public safety and I have been married to a retired firefighter for twenty years. No one running understands public safety better than I do, I’ve lived it.

7. If presented with a request, would you or would you not provide funding to a

company for the implementation of ERG (Employee Resource Groups)?

I would have to study this issue before I could make a decision.

8. Do you believe the members of the city council are representing the constituent’s wishes for the future of the city?

I believe there is a disconnect and that is part of the reason I am running. I would like to create a number of citizens boards to advise and help the council. I want to put the People’s voice back in government.

9. Do you believe the election in 2020 was transparent and honest?

I think there were some questions, but I don’t believe it would have changed the outcome.

Thanks so much for reaching out and being active in our local elections this year. I appreciate your thoughtful questions about issues that are important to you and you will find my answers to those questions below. If you would like me to clarify anything or have any follow up questions that you would like to ask please don't hesitate to do so.

Thank you again for your consideration.

1. Are you in favor of Ranked Choice Voting in Utah?  One of the reasons why this method of voting is being considered is because of the low voter turnout for primary elections. I believe that the mail in ballots that were sent to current Washington Residents who are registered to vote should help increase the number of ballots being cast. I know there has been some controversy surrounding mail in ballots but I believe they may be a good option, especially in a primary election like the one we have now, so that the voice of the people can really be heard.  Ranked Choice Voting seems to be advantageous for those who are already in office and may not be a good representation of what the community wants overall.

2. What attracts you to this role? What makes you different?  I have a genuine love for our city and its citizens. I have spent most of my life serving, in various capacities, but I never anticipated running for office until this year. Ultimately I felt like I was sitting on the sidelines watching leaders at all levels of government fail to take a stand and defend our rights and the Constitution. I believe now, more than ever, we need people who will stand up and defend our citizens against oppressive laws, mandates, or regulations that violate our rights as Americans.

3. Do you feel that government needs more power/control or less power/control? Less control and power. The Constitution is the law of the land and clearly states that ALL powers that are not granted to the Federal Government belong to the States. We need to work towards that goal again.

4. Are you for or against forcing the Covid-19 vaccine on all eligible citizens? No one should be forced to do anything in a free society. Those who choose to get the vaccine should get it and those who choose not to,  no matter the reason, also have the right  to not get it.

5. Are you for or against segregation based off of vaccination status?  Absolutely against.  This is a clear violation of our rights and is designed to separate and divide people into two classes of citizens, those who comply and those who don't.

6. Would you work to fund or defend our law enforcement if given the option?  Without question we need to support our police force and other first responders. Those cities who enacted policies to remove funding from police have seen dramatic increases in crime and murder. This is bad policy and has no place in our city.

7. If presented with a request, would you or would you not provide funding to a

company for the implementation of ERG (Employee Resource Groups)?   I don't believe it is the governments role or responsibility to fund programs in the private sector, no matter how noble they might be.

8. Do you believe the members of the city council are representing the constituent’s

wishes for the future of the city?  I believe that our current city council members are sincere and care about the city and its residents. I also feel like we are at a critical time when decisions need to be made and real leadership needs to be demonstrated, even if some of the decisions being made are unpopular with some. You will never please everyone all of the time but I personally respect those who take a position and stick with it than someone who tells me what they think I want to hear and then doesn't follow through with it.

9. Do you believe the election in 2020 was transparent and honest?  There were a lot of abnormalities the night of the 2020 elections and now the current administration and the DOJ are attempting to prevent independent state audits from happening is very concerning.

Kimberly Casperson

Thank you for writing to me and for wanting to be involved.

I am deeply troubled with the overreach of government, the government mandates and intrusion, and threats on individual liberties and the Constitution which is why I have decided to run for city council. I want to defend individual liberties and citizen rights, and defend and uphold the Constitution.  You can read more about me on my website kimberlycasperson.com

My political goals are to serve and be involved in getting to know the residents here in washington city, be a voice for those who feel voiceless,  protect and defend the Constitution, citizens rights, individual liberty, protect the quality of life here in Washington City, stand against government intrusion, find ways to cut taxes for the taxpayer, stand against cancel culture, encourage community involvement in standing for freedom and celebrating our heritage and our Nation.

I am against government shutdowns. It is not the government's role to tell you that your business is unessential.

I am against mandatory vaccines and passports and mandatory masks. I respect individuals to make the best decisions for their health. Again, it is not the government's role to tell you the therapy, treatment plan that you need to follow. This is an overreach of the government. Medical decisions are personal.

If we allow politicians to break the law in an emergency, they will create emergencies in order to continue to break the law. Politicians should uphold the Constitution even in a pandemic.

I believe parents should be respected to make decisions that they believe are best for their child. For some parents, they might have the perspective that it is in the child's best interest to wear a mask; they should be respected. For some parents, they might have the perspective that it is NOT in the child's best interest to wear a mask, they should also be respected.

I have spoken with Constitutional minded attorneys to learn how as a city council member, I can protect and defend freedom here locally. The city council decides how to implement government mandates. We can choose not to enforce or implement any of the government mandates. We can pass resolutions to defend individual liberties and citizen rights and uphold the Constitution even in a so-called emergency power situation in Washington city. I will do this.

I do believe the government overstepped its bounds in the last 18+ months. I respect and admire Governor Kristi Noem for actually defending and upholding the Constitution and respecting individual liberty despite the relentless attacks against her.

From what I have learned about Ranked Choice voting, it is not a good system to use and we should get rid of it.

I am for supporting and funding our law enforcement.

I do not believe that it is the government's responsibility to provide for what can be achieved privately. I do not think it is good to have the government competing against private organizations. Not only are taxpayers having to subsidize some of these government places like the golf course and rec center, but we also have to pay to use these places and many people cannot afford to use the golf course and rec center even though their tax dollars are paying for it.

What do you think? Do you believe the members of the city council are representing the constituent’s wishes for the future of the city?

As I have gone door to door, there are many people who are frustrated with the decisions that the city council has made.

It is hard to know what is going on with the election. What to believe and what not to believe with the news. There were some things that have happened that made me question the transparency and honesty of the election, however, and with all the audits going on and hearings, I am hopeful we will get answers.

Thank you for writing me and let me know if you have additional questions!
